If you are constantly purchasing scented candles and enjoy the luxury of your home smelling delicious, you may be a perfect candidate for owning your own home candle business. You can work at home and earn an income selling a product you love!

The candle industry produces over $2 billion dollars annually. In the USA alone, candles are burned in over 80% of the homes and this number is on the rise since the tragedy of 9/11.

People burn candles to promote mood enhancement, relieve stress and to create a romantic environment. It’s no wonder candles are a popular gift giving idea among many Americans today.

If you have ever entertained the idea of owning your own home candle business, you will certainly want to research the various companies offering independent ownership within their company. There are a multitude of companies successfully training distributors to market their products. Your research prior to making a commitment will make a difference on your long-term success while working at home.

Find out the potential commission possibilities based on retail sales. Obviously the more money you earn when selling product should be an important part of your decision- making process. My home candle business allows me to make 40%-60% profits on all retail sales while working at home. I am able to earn income directly from sales on my company website and earn commissions without having to purchase the product in advance. This is a wonderful feature as I don't have to handle the product. The product is shipped directly to the company and I earn my commissions from my online sales. I receive immediate profits from any sales made personally and always have a small amount of inventory on hand as a convenience for customers wishing to purchase immediately.

Are there any monthly requirements that need to be met to maintain an active status? As a distributor, I have joined the Candle of the Month Club. To maintain an active status, I receive a monthly autoship of the newest scent of the month for $39.95 plus shipping. Each month I receive a 16oz Gourmet Jar Candle, a dozen votives and a soy bath bar. Receiving a new scent each month is a great tool for marketing. My customers can't wait to hear about the newest scent that was just delivered! The company website is also included in this program and is great for marketing to the online consumer. I put my company website on all my product, business cards and catalogs to ensure maximum exposure.

Does the company require you to invest in a large inventory to be successful? While it is important to have some inventory on hand available for customers who may need an immediate item for gifting, it is even more important to keep your inventory in check. If the company requires a large inventory to be successful you will need to find out if the company is willing to buy back any items that have not sold should you decide to no longer maintain your membership. My company is a member of the Direct Selling Association and the Better Business Bureau. The Direct Selling Association requires the company to buy back any unused product that is in resaleable condition. There is a nominal fee in exchange for restocking and handling the product.

Does the company offer a residual income based on team building? Multi-Level Marketing has become a very lucrative and highly effective way of building long-term income. Essentially, the company pays you a commission check based on the commissionable sales volume of your team. Your efforts in building a team and giving them the necessary tools for training will be rewarded on a monthly basis via a company check or direct deposit. This is an excellent avenue for those who are leadership minded, self-motivated and willing to invest about 3-5 years part-time to reap the harvest financially. In my case, I earn 10% of the commissionable value on all purchases made by my downline in my 1st and 6th generation. I earn 5% of the commissionable value on all purchases made by my 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th and 8th generation. Essentially, I am able to sponsor as many people into the business without horizontal limitations. The potential is absolutely incredible for those who are focused and patient to see the long-term benefits of team building and earning a residual income.

Choose a sponsor who is interested in your success. You will enter into a partnership with me as your sponsor. It is important to me as your sponsor and team leader that I understand your vision and am respectful of where you want to take your business. If you are not interested in building your own team but are excited about retail, I will focus on training you in the area of successfully selling the product and not pressure you to enter into a territory that you are not the least bit interested in. However, choosing a sponsor who will challenge you in the area of personal growth and development is very important. I want to partner with you as you learn and grow on both a personal and professional level to obtain your goals towards financial freedom while working at home.

What kind of training is available for you to succeed at this business? There are a variety of mediums my company uses for training. Team websites, conference calls, conventions, auto-responders, DVD’s and weekly meetings are all a variety of ways you can receive training. Personal contact with me as your sponsor is crucial in the beginning stages of your candle business while you begin to learn to work from home. I am available for questions over the phone if you are unable to find the answers. All of these training tools are available to you for free. While they are not necessary to maintain an active status, you are given all the tools to succeed and the choice is up to you as to what avenues you would like to take to begin your journey while working at home.

Find out if there are any company guidelines for marketing the products. One of the primary reasons I chose my direct sales company is that I am able to market the products online and am not limited to retailing the candles strictly by conducting home shows and holiday bazaars. I have been provided a company website and have also created my own personal website for marketing myself as a team leader Find out what areas interest you before becoming a member and determine if the company guidelines will allow you to market the candles accordingly.
